Pokémon Ultra Moon is the definitive version of the Alola adventure – an enhanced take on Pokémon Moon with a darker storyline centred around Necrozma and its fusion with legendary Pokémon. Set in an alternate version of the Alola region, it adds new characters, Ultra Beasts, forms and side content on top of the original game.

You still follow the classic journey of a young Trainer travelling across sun-soaked islands, taking on Trials instead of Gyms and forming a team of favourites from across the generations. The difference is in the details: the Ultra Recon Squad storyline adds a new perspective on the Ultra Wormholes, and the post-game Team Rainbow Rocket episode brings back iconic villains from past games for a huge fan-service showdown.

Ultra Moon also stacks on extra gameplay systems like Mantine Surf – a trick-based surfing minigame that also acts as transport between islands – and the Ultra Warp Ride, where you dive into wormholes to hunt for legendary Pokémon from earlier generations. For many players, that combination of story tweaks, extra content and more legendaries makes Ultra Moon one of the top video games of all time on 3DS within the Pokémon catalogue.
